R. Jelinek Borovička Distilled Gin
R. Jelinek Borovička Distilled Gin is a traditional Central European juniper spirit from R. Jelínek, the historic Czech distillery in Vizovice best known for its slivovitz. Borovička is the classic juniper brandy of Slovakia and the Czech lands, and this version blends the piney intensity of a London Dry with Eastern European character: a heavy emphasis on wild juniper berries and only a minimal supporting cast of botanicals. It is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
Expect bold, resinous pine and a crisp, dry finish with very little in the way of citrus or florals getting in the way. It is traditionally sipped chilled, and it makes an intensely juniper-forward Martini or G&T, or a distinctive base for herbaceous cocktails with vermouth and amaro. At this price it is an easy way to explore an old style of juniper spirit that predates most modern gin.
