Raising Glasses 7 Year Union Rum
Raising Glasses is an American independent bottler run by Lorri and John, a husband-and-wife team who spent decades collecting Scotch before they started picking their own casks of rum, whisky and other spirits and bottling them under their own label. Union is their Réunion Island rum, drawn from Savanna, the distillery at Bois-Rouge in the north of the island that is better known for its wild, high-ester grand arôme rhums but also makes a traditional molasses rum on column stills, and that is what this is. The cask spent seven years in a rum cask across three continents, two years in Réunion, four in the European Union and one in the United States, before bottling in 2025 at cask strength with no sugar, coloring or other additives. The name comes from a story of three childhood friends, Hindu, Muslim and Christian, who found that the rivers of their hometowns all flowed into the same ocean. Raising Glasses describes the rum as having a creamy, buttery mouthfeel with raisin bran, dark Madagascar chocolate, banana and tart green mango, in line with the earlier six-year Union cask. 375ml bottle.
