Raising Glasses Union 6 Year Single Cask - Rum Curious Club Private Selection
Raising Glasses is an American independent bottler run by Lorri and John, a husband-and-wife team of longtime Scotch collectors who select their own casks and bottle them in 375ml under their own label, and this six-year Union, number 13 in their Folklore Series, is their first Réunion Island cask, released as a private selection for the Rum Curious Club. The rum comes from Savanna, the distillery at Bois-Rouge in the north of Réunion that is famous for its wild, high-ester grand arôme rhums but also runs a traditional molasses rum through its column stills, which is what went into this cask. It was distilled in 2017, aged six years and bottled in 2023 at cask strength, 61.7% ABV, with no sugar, coloring or other additives, in a run of 267 bottles. Union is named for the story of three childhood friends, Hindu, Muslim and Christian, whose hometown rivers all flowed into the same ocean. RumX community tastings, averaging 8.4 out of 10, describe caramel, shortbread cookie dough, vanilla, crème brûlée, baking spice and roasted nuts on the nose, with cookie dough, orange peel, milk chocolate, nutmeg and a thick caramel finish that shows little heat for the proof. 375ml bottle.
