Rare Character Pride of Anderson County Bourbon Whiskey
Pride of Anderson County began as a lottery-only exclusive, born from Rare Character's collaboration with whiskey writer David Jennings (Rare Bird 101) sourcing hand-selected barrels tied to the storied bourbon heritage of Anderson County, Kentucky — the same county that's home to Wild Turkey. It's since evolved into an ongoing single barrel series, with two new chapters released each year. This latest release is a 9.5-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon, aged in new charred American oak and bottled uncut, unfiltered, and at natural barrel strength: 58.48% ABV (116.96 proof). That strength shows: the nose opens with caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak, joined by dark cherry and brown sugar. On the palate, baking spice and cinnamon build alongside leather, tobacco, and barrel char, all riding the deep sweetness that high-proof Kentucky bourbon fans chase. The finish runs long and warming, with barrel char and spice lingering well after the last sip. Single barrel selections like this one vary bottle to bottle, so each release captures its own specific slice of the rickhouse. Best enjoyed neat, or opened up with a few drops of water to unlock more of the fruit and spice.
