Region de Mexico Reposado Tequila
Región de México Reposado is the rested expression from NOM 1494 in the Tequila Valley (Los Valles) region of Jalisco, made from 100% blue Weber agave the same way as the brand's blanco: piñas cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks without fibers, and distilled twice in a stainless pot still, with natural spring water for proofing and an activated-carbon bath before bottling at 40% ABV (80 proof). The reposado then spends six months in a mix of American white oak and French oak barrels, which is where it departs from most valley reposados that rest only in ex-bourbon wood. The two barrel types show up separately in the glass according to reviewers on Tequila Matchmaker: the American oak brings cinnamon and tannin, the French oak a rounder sweetness, over a base of cooked agave, ripe banana, melon and barrel spice on the nose, and caramel, vanilla, honey, black pepper and a cayenne-like warmth before the finish. One reviewer summed it up as flavorful but not dense, an easy-drinking reposado that still tastes like agave first, which makes it a good candidate for an añejo-free Old Fashioned or simply poured neat.
