Robert Mondavi Winery Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Robert Mondavi founded his namesake Oakville winery in 1966 with the goal of making Napa Valley wines that could stand among the world's finest, and his innovations, from cold fermentation to French oak barrel aging and the 1979 Opus One partnership, shaped modern California wine. The winery's flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon draws on the celebrated To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, a 450-acre site first planted in 1868, blended with fruit from Wappo Hill in the Stags Leap District and other estate sources. The winemaking team ferments the Cabernet with extended skin contact and ages it 19 months in French oak barrels, roughly a third new, at 15.0% ABV. Winery notes describe ripe raspberry, blackberry and blueberry layered with dried herb, graham cracker and mineral nuances, followed by juicy red berry and cranberry flavors, bright acidity, sweet toast, polished tannins and a long, fresh, savory finish. It is a plush, elegant expression of Napa Cabernet that drinks well now and will improve for a decade. Serve this 750ml bottle with grilled steak, roasted lamb or mushroom risotto. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
