Rochioli Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Rochioli has farmed in the Russian River Valley for more than 85 years across four generations of the family, and its fruit is some of the most sought-after in Sonoma County. Joe Rochioli Sr. bought the family's gravelly vineyard land in 1938, and his son Joe Jr. carried on the vision of growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay there, with older blocks that trace back to plantings from the late 1960s. The family's wines are known as terroir-driven and are rated among the best in the world, and this is the Russian River Valley bottling. Bottled at 14.5% alcohol, it opens with ripe cherry, vanilla and savory herbs. The palate is juicy and concentrated, with silky tannins, a hint of dusty cherry and a polished, long finish. Wine Spectator gave it 92 points, noting finely beaded acidity, red currant and damson plum flavors, and savory and rose hip notes on the finish.
