Rodney Strong Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Rodney Strong Vineyards was founded in 1959 by former dancer Rod Strong, who planted Sonoma County's first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, Alexander's Crown, on a Jimtown hillside in 1971; the winery is still family-owned by the Klein family and now farms more than 1,100 acres of estate vines. This Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, made by winemaker Olivia Wright, draws on hillside fruit from three estate Cabernet vineyards stretching from Jimtown through Geyserville and north to Cloverdale. The 2023 vintage, a cool growing season with an exceptionally late harvest that gave the grapes a month of extra hang time, was aged 18 months in 100% French oak, half of it new, and bottled at 14.5% ABV in 750ml. The winery notes aromas of ripe red plum and dark berries with cassis and milk chocolate, dried-fig flavors and firm, chewy tannins softened by barrel age, built to drink now and over the next five to seven years. Pair it with a grilled ribeye, a charcuterie board or a portobello burger. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
