Rudo Blanco Tequila
Rudo takes its name from lucha libre, where the rudo is the heel, the rule-breaking brawler who fights the clean, acrobatic técnico, and the brand is the rough-edged half of a matched pair with its sister label Tecnico. Both are produced by Impulsora Rombo, S.A. de C.V. under NOM 1467, a family-run distillery in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco. The blanco is made from 100% blue Weber agave cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks and double distilled in copper pot stills, then bottled unaged at 40% ABV (80 proof). The lucha libre pairing is more than a gimmick: tasters who have tried both side by side describe Rudo as the earthier, more peppery expression against Tecnico's sweeter profile, and Tequila Matchmaker reviewers pick up cooked agave, grass, olive, black tea and citrus on the nose with a long black-pepper finish. The reposado from the same line took Best Highland Reposado in the 2012 Tequila.net awards.
