Rutherford Hill Winery was founded in 1972 on a hillside above the Silverado Trail in Rutherford, and since 1996 it has belonged to the Terlato family, the Chicago importing dynasty that also owns Chimney Rock, with a philosophy of embracing the highest quality as a way of life. The winery is best known for pioneering Napa Merlot, but its Cabernet Sauvignon program draws on the same estate holdings and long-standing grower relationships across Napa Valley, from Rutherford and Oakville benchland to cooler southern sites, blended for balance and classic valley character. The wine is aged in a mix of French and American oak in the winery's extensive caves, some of the largest in Napa, and bottles at around 14.5% ABV in 750ml. Expect a deep ruby wine with blackberry, black cherry and cassis layered over mocha, vanilla, toasted cedar and a hint of dried sage, with a full body, soft rounded tannins and a warm, lingering finish. It is a dependable, generous Napa Cabernet for grilled steak, roast beef with horseradish, barbecue brisket or a cheese board of aged cheddar and Manchego. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
