Rutte Old Simon Genever is made in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, to the original recipe of Simon Antonius Rutte, who founded the distillery in 1872. It is a generous two-fifths malt wine to three-fifths grain spirit, redistilled with juniper and thirteen other botanicals including coriander, angelica, mace, fresh berries and celery, plus the ingredients that make it unique: toasted hazelnuts and roasted walnuts. It is bottled at 35% ABV (70 proof).

Difford's Guide describes brown bread, brazil nut, pine, overripe banana and baked apple on the nose, a subtly sweet, soft palate of juniper, bread, nuts, pine, dried apple, honey and cinnamon, and a finish of baked bread and pine with gentle pepper, calling it "delightfully soft and bready with nutty angelica root, pine needle freshness and underlying herbal complexity." Serve it ice-cold and neat, or in a Holland Gin Cocktail or Improved Genever Old Fashioned.
