Sammy's Beach Bar Rum is the rum brand of Sammy Hagar, the Van Halen frontman whose spirits business began with Cabo Wabo tequila and whose rum takes its name from his beach-themed Sammy's Beach Bar & Grill restaurants and his part-time home on Maui, where the rum was originally made. The first version was a true Hawaiian cane-juice rum distilled at Haliimaile Distilling Company on Maui from first-press juice of island-grown sugarcane, fermented for around five days and run through pot stills, and Difford's Guide described it as estery and full-flavored despite a light body, with bread dough, cane juice and brown sugar notes. In 2023 Hagar reworked the recipe and packaging of the white rum, now triple distilled from Caribbean sugar cane, and the current bottling is 40% ABV (80 proof); the brand describes tropical coconut and banana on the nose, citrus and sweet caramel on the palate and a smooth tropical finish. It is a clean mixing rum at a friendly price, built for the drinks a beach bar actually sells: mojitos, daiquiris, piña coladas and rum punches. Hagar has said his spirits business now earns him more than his music.
