Saveiro Vento do Oeste is a 750ml medium-rich (meio doce) Madeira and the first bourbon-barrel-finished Madeira made on the island. Named for the westerly trade winds, it honors the historic ties between Madeira and America: casks of Madeira once sailed to the colonies, and today bourbon barrels ship from Kentucky to the island for finishing.
It is aged three years in the traditional manner, then finished for 12 to 18 months in used bourbon barrels, adding vanilla and toasted oak to Madeira's signature notes of dried fruit, caramel and bright acidity. Serve it lightly chilled as an apéritif or with dessert, or use it in a Madeira Old Fashioned.
