Schug Carneros Estate Winery was founded by German-born winemaker Walter Schug, who built his reputation on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown in the cool, windswept vineyards of Sonoma. For this bottling, the fruit is sourced from the Sonoma Coast appellation, where Pacific fog and steady winds slow ripening and preserve fresh acidity. Bottled at 13.5% alcohol, this Pinot Noir is built around bright flavors of red cherry and raspberry with an elegant, silky mouthfeel. The tannins are soft, and the acidity keeps the wine lively from the first sip through to the finish. It is a graceful, medium-bodied style that is easy to match with food, from roasted chicken and glazed pork tenderloin to grilled salmon and mushroom risotto. It also works well on a cheese board with Brie or Gruyere. For the best expression of the fruit, serve it with a light chill, around cellar temperature, and give it a few minutes in the glass to open up and show its softer spice notes. 750ml bottle.
