Sea Smoke Southing Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Sea Smoke grows Pinot Noir on its estate vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills of Santa Barbara County, a cool transverse valley where morning fog, the source of the winery's name, rolls in from the Pacific. Southing is an elegant and complex estate-grown wine and aged about 16 months in French oak. Bottled at 14.5% alcohol, it shows black and white cherry, black raspberry and macerated blackberry on the nose, then a lightly earthy, darker-fruited palate with pomegranate, muted vanilla and touches of dried fruit, fennel, clove and nutmeg. Tannins are polished, acidity is fresh and the finish is long and savory. It drinks well after a brief decant and develops further over the next several years. Pair it with roast duck, seared lamb or a mushroom and Gruyere tart. A good choice for readers who want a benchmark Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir with both fruit and structure, or a bottle for a holiday dinner. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
