Shortcross Gin
Shortcross Gin is made at Rademon Estate Distillery in County Down, Northern Ireland's first craft gin distillery, founded by Fiona and David Boyd-Armstrong. It is a classic juniper-led gin built on botanicals foraged from the estate's forests and gardens, wild clover, elderflower, elderberry and green apple, alongside juniper, coriander, orange and lemon peel and cassia, made with water from the estate's own historic well. It is bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) to retain the rich botanical oils, hand-bottled, wax-dipped and signed.
Difford's Guide describes nutty, woody angelica with lavender and camphor on the nose, a soft mouthfeel with faint sweetness and piney juniper on the palate, and a finish of nutty balsawood and woody licorice, calling it well-balanced and integrated. The distillery's serve is over ice with elderflower tonic and an orange peel. The name comes from Crossgar, "short cross" in Gaelic, and a Shortcross penny sits on every bottle.
