Smoke Wagon is the bourbon brand of Nevada H&C Distilling Co., founded in Las Vegas in 2012 by Aaron Chepenik and Jonathan Hensleigh, who built the brand on blending high-rye barrels from MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The Christmas Edition 2024 is the Straight Bourbon dressed for the holidays: a limited label with a snowman, stacked barrels, Santa's sleigh and the brand's crossed revolvers over a map of Nevada, along with its motto, Bibamus Moriendum Est, roughly, let us drink, for we must die. The bourbon is the one that launched in fall 2019 as an affordable everyday pour: a mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley, barrels racked on the top two floors of the warehouse and never rotated, no age statement, bottled at 92.5 proof (46.25% ABV) in a 750ml bottle. Breaking Bourbon describes the standard release as caramel, honey and vanilla with toasted oak on the nose, toffee, nutmeg, light oak and tobacco on the palate, and a finish that fades into a burst of rye spice.
