Spirit of Hven Navy Strength Gin
Spirit of Hven Navy Strength Gin is an organic gin from the tiny island of Hven (Ven) in the Ă–resund strait between Sweden and Denmark, where the Molin family runs a distillery, hotel and conference resort. It is a wheat-based contemporary gin bottled at 57.1% ABV (114.2 proof), and it is made by an unusual method: the spirit rests in oak before its final distillation, so it carries the influence of the wood without the golden color of an aged gin.
The Gin Is In found a vibrant nose of peppercorn and spice with cubeb and grains of paradise, green juniper with vanilla and a cooling quality on the palate, and a long finish of heat and juniper with subtle oak and licorice, and suggested it shows best in cocktails with citrus. At navy strength it has the muscle for a Gimlet, a Negroni or a G&T with a squeeze of lime. An intriguing, unconventional Scandinavian gin for adventurous drinkers.
