Worth knowing upfront: Stags' Leap Winery is a distinct, separate producer from the more famous Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, winner of the 1976 Judgment of Paris — the two wineries fought a real legal battle over the shared name decades ago, ultimately settling on different apostrophe placement to tell them apart. This Stags' Leap Winery has its own serious pedigree, though: one of Napa's oldest producers, with vineyards first planted in 1872. The Limited Edition Reserve was created to mark that 150-year milestone, sourced from select growers across the cooler southern stretch of Napa Valley's floor, deliberately avoiding warmer sites to echo the character of the estate's own Stags Leap District fruit. The 2019 vintage blended 88% Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Drinkhacker reviewed it directly, finding it tight at first pour but opening beautifully with air into juicy, well-integrated plum, cassis, blackberry, and tea leaf, with a silky mouthfeel and a medium-long, milk-chocolate finish. CellarTracker's community rates it a solid 89.4 average, with reception genuinely mixed — most find it very enjoyable, though a few expected more at this price point.
