Starward Stout Cask Finish is a limited release from Starward Distillery in Melbourne, Australia, that brings together the city's craft beer and whisky scenes. Starward's Australian single malt, first matured in ex-bourbon barrels, is finished in casks that held rich stout from local Melbourne breweries, picking up the roasted malt, chocolate and coffee character of the beer. It is bottled at a robust 52% ABV (104 proof), non chill-filtered, in a 750ml bottle.
The whisky is bold and layered: caramel and toffee up front, then dark chocolate, espresso and roasted grain from the stout casks, with Starward's signature fruitiness underneath and a long, warm finish.
