Halley's Comet is one of the most powerful bottlings in the Summer Dreams range from Jayson Woodbridge, built from hillside micro-blocks on the Western Sonoma Coast. The vineyards sit between roughly 900 and 1,900 feet in Goldridge soils, a fine-grained sandy loam known for excellent drainage, and some sites have Goldridge layered over ancient seabeds with higher clay content that holds moisture through the growing season. Bottled at 14.5% alcohol, this wine is medium ruby-purple and charges out of the glass with juicy blackberries, black cherries and forest floor, leading to hints of black truffle, crushed rocks and wild sage. The palate is full-bodied and dense with black fruit and earthy notes, supported by velvety tannins and impressive tension, and it finishes very long with many layers. It rewards a decant and pairs well with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs or roast venison.
