Tequila Gran Diamante Anejo
Tequila Gran Diamante is the brand of Royal Ventures Group, co-founded by CEO Rafi Hannouche, who started the company in 2015, began making tequila in 2016 and launched the plata, reposado and añejo together in 2020; in May 2022 NBA star James Harden bought a minority stake. It is distilled and bottled by Compañía Tequilera de Arandas, NOM 1460, in Arandas, Jalisco, under master distiller Gilberto Jasso, from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the red volcanic soil of the Los Altos highlands. The agave is cooked in a high-pressure autoclave, crushed on a roller mill, fermented open-air in stainless steel tanks without fibers using a yeast strain developed decades ago, then distilled twice in a copper pot still and proofed with deep well water. The añejo spends 18 months in French oak barrels before bottling at 40% ABV. The bottle, inspired by a perfume flacon and set on an inverted pyramid base designed by Charles Harris, took the brand years of iterations to get right and is still assembled in Mexico. Tequila Matchmaker reviewers find chocolate and vanilla with light sweetness and a short finish, a soft, dessert-leaning añejo made as much for the bar cart as the glass.
