Tequila Pasion Anejo
Tequila Pasión Añejo is produced at NOM 1460, Compañía Tequilera de Arandas, in Arandas, Jalisco, in the southern Los Altos highlands, the same distillery that makes Gran Diamante, from 100% blue Weber agave grown in the highlands. The agave is cooked in a high-pressure autoclave, crushed on a roller mill, and fermented in stainless steel tanks with the fibers removed, then distilled twice in a copper pot still. For the añejo, the spirit is aged in French oak barrels, which the brand credits with the darker amber color and the extra layer of aroma the wood gives up over a long rest; the owner has told tasters it spends around two years in barrel, though the distillery does not publish an official age beyond the one-year category minimum. It is bottled at 40% ABV. Tequila Matchmaker's community tags for it run to maple, raisin, nuts, chocolate, orange peel, dried cherry, coconut and pear, with honey on the palate, and the site's lead reviewer, who picked up an oaky, bourbon-like note up front, scored it 80 and called it a really good budget añejo. A French-oak highland añejo priced where most reposados sit.
