The London No. 1 Original Blue Gin is a London Dry gin distilled in small batches in a pot still at Thames Distillers in London for González Byass, the Spanish house behind Tío Pepe sherry. Its twelve botanicals include juniper, coriander, angelica, lemon and orange peel, cassia, cinnamon, iris, licorice, almond, savory and bergamot, and its signature turquoise-blue color comes from a natural infusion added after distillation. It is bottled at 47% ABV (94 proof).
Drinkhacker rated it a B+ (8.5/10) and called it versatile, well-made and unique, with a solid juniper base, caramel, citrus and grapefruit on the nose, a palate that opens up with air to reveal earthy and floral character, and a bittersweet citrus finish with balsamic notes and a hint of honey. The higher proof keeps it assertive in a G&T, where the blue color turns a pale lilac, and it makes a striking Martini or Aviation.
