Tolosa 1772 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Tolosa is a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay specialist based in Edna Valley, and its 1772 series, named for the year the San Luis Obispo mission was founded, reaches beyond its home base to source from other well-regarded appellations. This bottling comes from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, where fog and cool nights give Pinot Noir ripe flavor with firm acidity. Bottled at 14.0% alcohol, the wine shows a medium dark ruby color and aromas of ripe dark cherry and plum, along with lavender, dark earth, roses and toasted nuts. The palate is medium to full in body, with dense, juicy cherry and pomegranate flavors, woodsy, anise-tinged undertones, excellent balance, and a long, firm finish. That structure gives it enough backbone for richer dishes, such as roast duck, grilled lamb chops, pork loin with herbs or a mushroom and Gruyere tart. Serve it at cellar temperature and decant for a short time if you open it young. It is a good value for drinkers who like a fuller, darker Pinot Noir from the Russian River. 750ml bottle.
