Tolosa Primera Edna Ranch Vineyard Edna Valley Pinot Noir
Tolosa is based in the Edna Valley of San Luis Obispo County, and Primera is its flagship small-lot Pinot Noir, grown on the Edna Ranch estate vineyard about five miles from the Pacific. The valley is one of California's coolest wine regions, with an east-west orientation that draws in ocean air and gives a long, slow growing season. The result is a wine with concentration and good natural acidity. Bottled at 14.0% alcohol, it is medium to full-bodied with rich, layered flavors of strawberry, cherry and plum, followed by a long floral and earthy finish. Reviewers have also noted red fruit with baking spice, well-integrated French oak and finely structured tannins in past releases. The wine opens up with a short decant and should age gracefully for several years. Pair it with roast duck, grilled pork chops with stone fruit, or a wild mushroom and thyme pasta.
