Transcontinental Rum Line Single Cask Guyana 2014
Guyana produces some of the Caribbean's most idiosyncratic rum, and this single cask release from Transcontinental Rum Line captures that character at full strength. TCRL is the independent bottling arm of Paris's La Maison du Whisky, in business since 1956, and the line built its reputation on transparency — always disclosing how a rum split its time between tropical and continental aging rather than hiding behind a vague statement. This particular cask, distilled in Guyana in 2014, matured in refill rum casks in Europe and was bottled undiluted at a hefty 58.8% ABV (117.6 proof), with only 240 bottles produced. The nose comes on strong with maple syrup and vanilla, edging toward a candy-like sweetness that borders on saccharine. On the palate that intensity carries through as wood polish and butterscotch mingle with dates and more maple, before a biting, petrol-forward finish takes over and lingers. This is Demerara rum in its rawest form — funky, high-proof, and true to its still. It's built for the serious rum collector who wants to taste Guyana at cask strength, whether neat or opened up with a single drop of water.
