Tullibardine 228 Burgundy Finish is part of the cask-finish trio from a Highland distillery founded in 1949 at Blackford in Perthshire, on the site of a medieval brewery said to have supplied ale for the coronation of King James IV in 1488. Each finish is named for the size of its cask, and the 228 refers to the 228-liter Burgundy red wine barriques from Château de Chassagne-Montrachet that give this whisky its final maturation.
Matured first in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 86 proof, it offers red berries, strawberry and cherry on the nose with vanilla and a floral lift, then a smooth palate of red fruit, dark chocolate, honey and a subtle wine-cask spice, finishing gently dry and fruity.
