This is a Chips Liquor exclusive — a private single barrel of Two James's celebrated Doctor Bird Jamaican rum, finished in casks that previously held the Detroit distillery's own Catcher's Rye whiskey, selected by and bottled for us. Doctor Bird starts life at Jamaica's venerable Worthy Park Distillery: high-ester, pot-distilled rum aged six-plus years in used bourbon barrels, full of the pineapple, mango, passionfruit, coconut, and butterscotch character that made the standard bottling a bartender favorite. Where the regular release finishes in Spanish Moscatel casks, this barrel took a different road — resting in Two James's own rye whiskey casks, layering baking spice, black pepper, and toasted oak over that trademark Jamaican funk. The result keeps the tropical flavor bomb intact while adding a drier, spicier backbone that makes it genuinely distinctive in a Corn 'n' Oil, Mai Tai, or rum Old Fashioned — or sipped neat, where the funk and rye spice trade places sip after sip.
