Uncle Val's Botanical Gin
Uncle Val's Botanical Gin is made in small batches for 35 Maple Street, the Sebastiani family's spirits company in Sonoma, California, and named for Uncle Valerio Cecchetti, a retired physician near Lucca, Italy, whose love of gardening and Tuscan cooking inspired the recipe. Its five botanicals are the ones he cooks with: juniper, cucumber, lemon, sage and lavender. It is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
Drinkhacker rated it a B+, describing a nose that immediately evokes lime, a palate where citrus leads with lavender and cucumber providing a cooling note, and a dangerously approachable, unique character. Uncle Val's describes crisp sage and juniper aromas, bright lemon, a warm and spicy lavender finish and cucumber for coolness. It is a summer gin: a G&T with a cucumber ribbon, a Southside, or a Gimlet with a sage leaf.
