Uncle Val's Zested Gin is the citrus expression from 35 Maple Street, the Sebastiani family's spirits company in Sonoma, California, whose Uncle Val's gins are named for Valerio Cecchetti, a Tuscan doctor and passionate gardener. Zested is built around lemon peel and Valencia orange peel over juniper, coriander and a secret blend of herbs, bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
It opens with a vibrant burst of citrus, like a breeze through a lemon grove, with a tantalizing sweetness on the nose; the palate keeps the botanicals in clear focus, with an earthy, peppery herbal backbone playing against the bright citrus, and the finish is exceptionally smooth with a delicate, lasting warmth.
