Volando is a tequila brand founded by four Australians who spent close to eighteen months developing it, traveling to Mexico and visiting nearly ten distilleries before settling on a three-generation family distiller to make it for them. The stated goal was a sipping tequila for people who had only known cheap shots, and the agave comes from the Jalisco heartland the founders call the Golden Tequila Triangle, the region that grows the best blue Weber agave. The Blanco is the base of the range, a 100% blue agave tequila rested no more than sixty days before bottling so that the cooked agave character comes through most directly, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle with a cork closure. Dan Murphy's, the Australian retailer that carries it, describes it as smooth and balanced, with caramel, baked agave, fruit and a hint of herbs on the nose giving way to earthy, wet-stone mineral flavors on the palate, and the founders describe caramel and fruity scents over the agave. It is built for sipping neat or chilled, though the mineral, caramel-edged profile also carries a margarita without any trouble.
