Yellowstone 2023 Limited Edition is the ninth annual allocated release from Limestone Branch Distillery in Lebanon, Kentucky, where seventh-generation distiller Stephen Beam has hand-selected a different blend and finish every year since 2015, when he and his brother Paul brought the Yellowstone brand, founded in 1872 by their great-great-grandfather J.W. Dant, back into the family. For 2023 Beam blended 7-, 13- and 16-year-old Kentucky straight bourbons and finished them in Tokaji casks sourced from northern Hungary; Tokaji is the traditional sweet wine of Hungary's Tokaj region made exclusively from white-wine grapes, and Beam said he found the perfect finish in those casks. The bourbon is bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV) in the custom embossed bottle with a natural cork, the 2023 Limited Edition emblem and a 101-proof callout on the label, with production limited to 30,000 bottles released in August 2023 at $99.99. Beam's published notes describe aromas of honey, green grapes and freshly baked cinnamon, a body that opens with dry spice followed by caramel, dark cherry, citrus and white pepper, and a finish of dry tobacco, honeysuckle and smoky oak. Each year's blend is a one-time release.
