Amrut Master Distiller's Reserve Indian Single Malt Whisky
Master Distiller's Reserve is Amrut's showcase blend — casks hand-picked by master distiller Surrinder Kumar from the Bangalore warehouses, the tropical-aged Indian malt at its most complete. Amrut was founded in 1948 and launched India's first single malt in Glasgow in 2004; the distillery sits at 3,000 feet in Bangalore, where the tropical climate matures whisky three times faster than Scotland, and the Master Distiller's Reserve is the distillery's own selection of its best barrels, unpeated Indian barley distilled in copper pots, matured in oak, married, and bottled without chill filtration or color; check your bottle for the proof. The house notes: tropical fruit, ripe mango, and juicy orange with warm spice on the nose; honey, caramel, and toasted oak with a subtle smokiness on a rich palate; and a long finish. Expect the Amrut house style at its roundest — the mango and honey of the Classic with the depth of the older casks, and a gentle smoke from the marriage. Honest note: the Amrut for the drinker who wants the distillery's own best-of rather than a cask experiment — the gift bottle in the range, and a fair way to taste what tropical aging does when the distiller picks the barrels. Neat. Master Distiller's Reserve.
