Branson Royal VSOP Cognac
Branson Royal VSOP is the mid-tier expression from Branson Cognac, the brand Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson launched in 2018 under his Sire Spirits company in partnership with the Raymond Ragnaud family, fifth-generation Grande Champagne producers whose vineyards date to the 1860s. Royal is a blend of Ugni Blanc eaux-de-vie sourced mainly from the Petite Champagne and Borderies crus, double distilled in the Ragnaud family's 1800s-era copper pot still and matured for a minimum of five years in French Sessile oak casks, exceeding the four-year VSOP requirement. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750ml bottle. Cocktail Society notes an amber-gold color, a fruity, sweet nose of peach, caramel and nuts, and a palate of dried fruit, nuts, oak and vanilla, calling it a strong cocktail cognac that also drinks well on its own. Branson Royal VSOP earned recognition at the Bartender Spirits Awards in both 2021 and 2022, the competition judged by working bartenders on mixability and value.
