Darioush Darius II Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Darioush was founded in 1997 by Darioush Khaledi, who left Shiraz, Iran, built a Southern California grocery business, then poured his love of Persian culture into a Silverado Trail winery fronted by sixteen travertine columns. Darius II, named for the Persian king, is the estate's crown jewel: a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon drawn predominantly from Darioush's own vineyards, including the Sage Vineyard on Mount Veeder, the Rahmat Vineyard and Spring Mountain plantings. Winemaker Hope Goldie ages it 21 months in 75% new French oak and the wine lands around 14.5% ABV. The current release shows dark, focused fruit with graphite, cedar and lifted herbal notes, firm yet refined on the palate with polished tannins and a long finish. James Suckling rated it 94 points, describing a big, tannic wine of blackberry, dried blueberry, coffee bean and graphite, while recent vintages have earned 92 to 95 from Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate and Connoisseurs' Guide. Decant it for a dry-aged ribeye, lamb with pomegranate or saffron-braised short ribs, or cellar it a decade. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release. 750ml bottle.
