Foley Johnson Estate Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Foley Johnson sits on Highway 29 in the heart of Rutherford, the former Provenance Vineyards property that Bill Foley acquired in 2012 and named for himself and his wife Carol Johnson Foley. The winery focuses on Bordeaux varieties from its estate vineyards in the Rutherford AVA, whose gravelly, well-drained benchland soils produce the fine-grained tannin Napa calls Rutherford dust. The Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon blends 83% Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% Petit Verdot and 1% each Cabernet Franc and Malbec, aged in French oak barrels before bottling at 15.1% alcohol. The winemaking team describes striking aromas of black cherry, plum, blackberry, and tobacco with a hint of strawberry, brown sugar, and forest floor, followed by a palate of blackberry, dark chocolate, and cocoa powder with medium-rich tannins and a long, velvety finish. Decanter has reviewed the 2021 among its top Rutherford Cabernets. Serve this 750ml bottle with a grilled ribeye, braised oxtail, or roasted duck. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
