Frey Ranch Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey is a true estate whiskey from Frey Ranch Distillery in Fallon, Nevada, where the Frey family has farmed the same land since 1854. Every kernel of the 100% winter rye in this bottle was grown on the ranch, then malted, fermented, distilled, aged and bottled on site, which makes it one of the very few grain-to-glass ryes in the country.
It is aged at least five years in new charred oak and bottled in bond at 100 proof. Bourbon & Banter gave it a Bottle recommendation, calling it worth the price and remarkably smooth for a bonded rye, with citrusy, candied grain, cocoa powder, fig cookies and wildflowers on the nose, a syrupy palate led by rye grain, and a long, delicate finish of white pepper, cardamom and vanilla pudding. It earned a Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Sip it neat or build a serious Sazerac with it.
