Hans Reisetbauer makes some of the most respected fruit brandies in the world from his family farm, Kirchdorfergut, in Axberg, Upper Austria. He planted his first orchard in 1990, had Christian Carl build a still to his own plans in 1994, and today the estate covers 140 hectares of certified-organic fruit trees and grain, including roughly 17,000 Williams pear trees and 7,000 apple trees. Each mash is distilled twice with the heads and tails discarded, rested at least three years in stainless steel, and cut with low-mineral Alpine spring water from the Mühlviertel; the 2019 distillery runs a single still with 48 temperature-control points. Since 2005 he has also distilled estate wheat into Blue Gin and Axberg Vodka, and the farm's organic barley goes into single malt whisky.
