Reisetbauer & Son 15 Year Old is an Austrian single malt from Hans Reisetbauer, one of the world's most celebrated makers of eau-de-vie and brandy, and his son Hansi Jr., who converted the family farm in Axberg, Upper Austria to certified organic agriculture. The whisky is made from estate-grown organic barley, fermented for 70 hours, distilled in a Christian Carl copper pot still and matured for a minimum of 15 years in ex-Chardonnay and Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA) dessert wine barrels. Bottled at 48% ABV, non chill-filtered, in a 750ml bottle. Everything down to the labeling is done by hand on the farm.
The wine casks give it a profile unlike any Scotch: yellow apple, pear, tarragon, galangal and a savory soy-sauce note on the nose, then red apple skin, ginger, clove and charred oak on a robust palate, with a drying, mineral finish. A rare, meticulous whisky for the serious collector.
