Maestro Reserva is Brugal's first-ever permanent prestige sipping rum, released in 2024, and it's the personal statement of Jassil Villanueva Quintana — fifth-generation Maestra Ronera, great-great-granddaughter of founder Don Andrés Brugal, and the first woman to hold the title in the house's 135-year history. The technique is hers: Dark Aromatic Toasting. Rum matures in hand-selected American oak sherry casks, then the casks are emptied and immediately toasted while still wet, drawing the wood's natural sugars to the surface where they caramelize into what the house calls "caramel pearls." The casks are refilled and the rum returns to age under the Dominican sun, marrying with that woody caramel intensity. Bottled at 41.2% ABV in a bespoke decanter, with natural color and sweetness — nothing added. Wine Enthusiast scored it 94 points.
