Frank August Case Study 08 Winter Wheated Reserve is the eighth release in the brand's Case Study series and its second wheated bourbon, following Case Study 05, which was named World's Best Wheated Bourbon at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. For Case Study 08 the team returned to those same wheated lots with a tighter selection, pulling only barrels distilled in winter; because of when they were filled, the whiskey carries an eight-year age statement but is closer to nine years old. It was bottled in eight distinct batches of eight hand-selected barrels each, distilled, aged and bottled in Kentucky, non-chill filtered at 54.4% ABV (108.8 proof) in a 750ml bottle, with each bottle individually numbered. Frank August describes a deep burnished copper color with thick, slow legs; a nose of crème brûlée, baked pear and brown butter opening to honeyed pastry, toasted pecan, polished oak and cinnamon bark; a plush palate of dark caramel, maple and butterscotch with baked cherry, soft baking spice, leather and dark chocolate; and a long, warming finish of vanilla custard and toasted oak.
