Pendleton Whisky is named for the Pendleton Round-Up — one of the largest rodeos in North America, held every September since 1910 in Pendleton, Oregon, a town once nicknamed "The Real West" for the outlaws it attracted. The bucking bronco on every bottle and the "Let'er Buck" tagline are the rodeo's own official marks. The brand was created in 2003 by Hood River Distillers, Oregon's oldest spirits company, and it's the official spirit of the PRCA and Professional Bull Riders, sponsoring more than 200 rodeos a year. The whisky itself is Canadian — distilled in Alberta from northern grains and shipped to Hood River, where it's proofed with glacier-fed water from Mount Hood, Oregon's highest peak, and bottled. Becle, the parent company of Jose Cuervo, acquired the brand in 2017 for around $205 million, and it's since become one of the ten best-selling Canadian whiskies in the US. The range runs from the smooth, honeyed Original through Midnight, a six-year-plus whisky finished in American brandy barrels for dark fruit and chocolate; 1910 Rye, a 100% rye aged 12 years that The Whiskey Wash called a great value and a permanent shelf addition; the annual 20-year Directors' Reserve; and the new 1910 Bourbon, the brand's first, aged ten years. A Military Edition supports veterans through the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
