Pendleton is the Canadian whisky brand of Hood River Distillers in Oregon, which describes itself as the largest and oldest importer, distiller, producer and bottler of spirits in the Northwest. The whisky itself is distilled in Canada by an undisclosed Canadian producer and then shipped south, where Pendleton finishes and bottles it at Hood River, Oregon. Before bottling it's brought down to strength with glacier-fed spring water from Mt. Hood, Oregon's highest peak. Pendleton was created to celebrate the hardworking life of the American cowboy and cowgirl, and the whisky inside is aged in oak and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV); older bottles carried a 10-year age statement, which was dropped in a rebrand. Drinkhacker's review found maple syrup and butterscotch on the nose and a sweet palate of dark brown sugar, clove and gingerbread, with some youthful heat kept in check by that sweetness. It's an easy-drinking, sweeter style of Canadian whisky that works well over ice, with ginger ale, or in a Whisky Sour.
