Isle of Raasay Hebridean Single Malt is the signature whisky of the young distillery founded in 2017 on the tiny Isle of Raasay, off the coast of Skye, the island's first legal distillery and now Scottish Distillery of the Year. Its recipe is unusually elaborate: a combination of lightly peated and unpeated spirit, each matured in three cask types, ex-rye whiskey, Chinkapin oak and Bordeaux red wine, then married together.
Bottled at 92.8 proof (46.4% ABV), non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle, it balances gentle, earthy peat smoke with dark fruit and spice: red berries, orchard fruit and rye pepper on the nose with a soft smokiness, then a rich palate of dark chocolate, plum, vanilla and gentle smoke with a Hebridean salinity, finishing long and warming.
