Especial Extra Dry is Brugal's premium white rum, launched in 2009 to replace the old Blanco Especial — and the Fat Rum Pirate, no fan of the entry-level Añejo, called it a rum he enjoyed far more than expected. The house was founded in Puerto Plata in 1888 by Andrés Brugal Montaner and is now run by its fifth generation of maestros roneros. The method is Spanish-Caribbean: molasses fermented with a proprietary yeast, triple distilled on column stills for an unusually clean spirit, then aged in American oak before being charcoal filtered back to clarity — so the smoothness of barrel time stays while the color goes.
