Scapegrace Distillery was founded in New Zealand in 2014 by brothers-in-law Mark Neal and Daniel McLaughlin, with master distiller Anthony Lawry at the stills. The distillery sits on the South Island and draws its water from the Southern Alps, ancient rain and snowmelt that spent decades filtering through the mountains. From the start the brand paired a classic, twelve-botanical dry gin recipe with a willingness to break convention, and that combination has made it one of the most recognized craft gin names in the Southern Hemisphere.

Scapegrace Black Gin is the world's first naturally black gin. The twelve-botanical grain spirit is layered with butterfly pea flower, aronia berry, saffron, local sweet potato and pineapple, with no dyes, so the gin shifts from jet black to lavender and plum the moment tonic or citrus hits the glass. It shows pineapple and lemon over spicy juniper, with tropical fruit, pepper and a hint of mint on the palate. Scapegrace Gold Navy Strength Gin uses the same recipe as the Classic, juniper, coriander, cassia, orris, angelica, fennel, nutmeg, clove, tangerine and orange peel, pot distilled in small batches and bottled at 114 proof. It took Double Gold at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and holds its shape in a Martini or a bold Negroni.
