Scapegrace Dry Gin
Scapegrace Dry Gin is a classic London Dry from New Zealand's Scapegrace Distilling Co. (formerly Rogue Society), distilled in a 19th-century John Dore whisky still outside Auckland with water sourced from the Southern Alps. It uses twelve botanicals, juniper, coriander, angelica, cardamom, cassia, cinnamon, clove, lemon, licorice, nutmeg, orange and orris root, and is bottled at 42.2% ABV (84.4 proof) in a distinctive dark glass bottle.
The Gin Is In rated it 4.5 out of 5 and highly recommended it, finding soft juniper with subtle spice and citrus on the nose, citrus giving way to a warm, piney juniper mid-palate, and a dry, clean finish with moderate licorice. It won Best London Dry at the 2018 International Spirits Awards. The reviewer singled it out for Martinis and Negronis and for a G&T with an aromatic tonic, and praised how it holds its own against mixers.
