Made in Denver from 100% malted barley and Rocky Mountain spring water, it spent ten years in new American oak casks at high altitude before finishing for two more years in carefully selected Port wine barrels, and it is bottled at 94.6 proof.
The long stint in new oak gives Mountain Angel deep caramel, toasted oak and baking spice, and the Port finish layers dark berries and dried fig over the top with a velvety, lingering finish. Stranahan's describes it as a rare, ultra-premium expression and a testament to patience, and it sits at the very top of the range above the flagship, Sherry Cask and the coveted Snowflake releases. American single malt this old is still uncommon, and Port-finished examples rarer still. A collector's bottle from one of the category's pioneers, and a beautiful slow sipper.
