The Debate is a Napa Valley house built around a single argument: which vineyard makes the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon. Rather than settle it, the winery bottles small lots from several celebrated sites each vintage, including Beckstoffer Dr. Crane and Missouri Hopper, and makes every lot the same way, with the same picking philosophy, native fermentations and uniform French oak regime, so the finished wines put the vineyards side by side. Consulting winemaker Philippe Melka, one of Napa's most decorated talents, guides the cellar.

The Artalade Montagna Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a high-elevation site on Atlas Peak in the Vaca Range, where thin volcanic soils, intense sunlight and cool mountain nights produce small, thick-skinned berries of exceptional concentration, aged about 20 months in mostly new French oak and bottled unfined. Expect blackberry, black currant, violet, crushed rock, graphite and mocha with true mountain tannins. The Denali Vineyard bottling, from the superb 2018 vintage, is a small, meticulously farmed Napa site yielding dark, concentrated fruit with blackberry, cassis, cocoa and sage on a firm, age-worthy frame.

Taste the vineyards head to head and settle the debate yourself. Browse our full The Debate collection with fast nationwide shipping delivered straight to your door.
